As a fellow webdesigner , I'm very glad to find that someone brought up this topic.

Many people out there don't understand what all is needed in our industry, and I think also we're many times not appreciated enough
or taken for granted. Never the less I'm glad to see that you feel the same way I do , thanks so much for your blog!

Actually both have their advantages.

Wordpress.com has the advantage of domain age and it can be quickly ranked by Google. Because the domain already has thousands of links pointing to it, you can piggy back on that ranking power get your post ranked quicker.

However, you lose control over the SEO aspects of the site and that is a major disadvantage if you plan on running a long term blog.

For that you would want to start a wordpress.org blog on your own domain. You have complete control over your site, but you will have to do a lot of link building in order to increase your rankings for your keywords.

It really depends on what you want to do.

Short articles and posts are good for wordpress.com but your main site should be run on your own domain.

A good idea is to use them together and link between them, so you can get the best of both worlds.
